After a hurricane destroys her home, Lily Jordan is ready for life to get back to normal. That would be easy if her mother’s recent engagement hadn’t landed her in a house along Southeast Texas’ most haunted ghost road. The secluded scenic road is steeped in rich history and legends, but when Lily is given an old diary on her birthday, will she find that those legends hold more for her future than she’s bargained for? With the help of new friends, Hunter and Owen, and forbidden love, Talon, will she uncover dark secrets from the past and find the key to her own gifts? Is it fate or circumstance that brought her to her new home? Normal gives way to the paranormal in book one of the Light Keeper series where mystery and suspense will keep you guessing until the very last page.
Sissy: “…legends change through time, the stories grow, but one thing remains the same, the Light exists.” That is the cool and interesting thing about YA paranormal book The Legend of the Light Keeper by Kelly Hall–it is a new twist on good and evil, using literal dazzling light juxtaposed against dark shadows. Lily, our heroine, has gone through a traumatic time, but this new chapter of her life does not bring quiet and peace, necessarily. The whole book lays the background–we meet the major characters and bond with them, we learn about the setting and its “haunted” history, and we start to guess at Lily’s true role. But, we are only given snippets of understanding about Lily’s gift, its purpose, who else in the family had it, what the evil shadows are, etc.
Bubby: I am so curious about how the story is going to unfold in Book 2. How will Talon and Lily’s parents react to their new-found relationship? What is Lily’s purpose? How does her family’s history fit into all of this? I have so many questions! I must know! But I am destined to have to wait, sadly enough.
Sissy: Yes, you’ll have to work on your patience, Bubby, which is seriously lacking. Despite all the questions we may have, Book 1 of the Light Keeper Series is fast paced and full of mystery and romance. And ghostly stuff! All I know is that Bubby will not be going to Bragg Road in South Texas any time soon. She’s a wimp when it comes to paranormal encounters.
Bubby: Not that you are any different, Sissy. I will admit, however, that there are some books I will not read after dark or just before bed. I save those reading times for fluffy inconsequential romances. The Legend of the Light Keeper was definitely a “read before 9 pm” novel! A little creepy, a little scary, lots of fun atmospheric locations and can I just say how much I love the character of Granny? I want to be her when I grow up! Don’t miss this debut YA paranormal from Kelly Hall.
