Aurora Firedrake returns in the spellbinding sequel to The Last of the Firedrakes. The seven kingdoms of Avalonia are crumbling and evil is spreading across the land like a plague. Queen Morgana is close to finding a way to open The Book of Abraxas and it’s only a matter of time until she uses the power trapped inside its pages to enslave the entire world. With Avalonia growing more dangerous by the day, Aurora must travel through war-torn lands and deep into the heart of the fae kingdom of Elfi. Her goal is to find a legendary weapon infused with the last of the realm’s ancient magic—the only weapon in the world powerful enough to stop the queen. Aurora might have survived her first battle against Morgana, but the true fight to save her kingdom and restore her throne has only just begun…
Bubby: Can I just rave about the cover for a minute? Even if I hadn’t read the first book, The Last of the Firedrakes, (which I have, obviously) I would want to read The Rise of the Dawnstar just for the cover. Look at that castle! Look at Aurora’s sword and her glowing hand of power! Those mountains and purple flowers and the golden gate and just…everything. BTW, The Last of the Firedrakes has a fabulous cover too. Luckily for us readers, the story inside the cover is just as good.
Bubby: Yes, I can, but I bet you can’t. Elder sister.
Sissy: Right. I wouldn’t do well in a police interrogation. No matter–I remember that we reviewed it. And that we really liked it. And fortunately, I can always go back and look at what I said about it, so there’s no need to remember. We left Aurora and Rafe as they had just escaped and were on their way to Elfi, the Fae kingdom. The Rise of the Dawnstar picks up right where we left off and takes us on a wild adventure, filled with danger, magic and handsome men.
Bubby: We all have our own mental pictures of what book characters look like, but in this case, Farah Oomerbhoy has helped us out by giving us PLENTY of Pinterest images of her characters. Here are your three new book boyfriends:
Bubby: But there’s no harm in looking, am I right? There’s not a lot more we can say about the plot of The Rise of the Dawnstar but we can gush a bit more about the fast-paced plot, the intricate magic, the excellently drawn characters and the beautifully described settings. I want to move to Elfi immediately! I can’t wait for the third book, if only because Farah Oomerbhoy left us with a desperately heart-wrenching scene at the end.
