Liz, Gemma, Arie, Jess, and Drew have been best friends since creating “the Five” at Aliso Creek High School. But that was over ten years ago, and each is still trying to find that perfect someone . . . if perfect is even possible. In PICTURE PERFECT, Gemma has never done anything out of the ordinary, until her boyfriend Randy starts to ignore her. But even cutting and dyeing her hair doesn’t get his attention. She decides to join her old high school friends for spring vacation, only to be faced with Drew, her best friend who suddenly seems interested in her as more than a friend. Gemma must determine if her heart is on the rebound or if it’s finally met its true match.
Sissy: Did you ever know someone who you thought was so good-looking and great but always assumed they were out of your league or would never be interested in you? I remember feeling like that a time or two in my younger days. Turns out if I could go back into my old self while retaining all my long acquired wisdom I would definitely take more risks and go for those relationships, knowing now that those guys were NOT out of my league. Gemma’s boyfriend Randy, who outgrew his value long before she realized it (funny how blind and complacent we can become), finally gets to the “last straw” moment. Really he was doing her a favor even though she didn’t think so at first.
Bubby: Randy. What a scum bucket. He dumps Gemma by telling her that he “wants to be free to meet other women”, while flirting with the bartender at the restaurant. Ouch. Definitely not good enough for our girl! I think lots of girls stay with unsuitable men out of fear that they won’t find anyone better or from force of habit. I say, keep looking until you’ve found someone who treats you like the queen you are! (And then treat them just as well and you’ll be happy!)
Sissy: Hear, hear! This little gem of a novella (no pun intended) is only 57 pages long so I had it read within a half hour. Bubby, however, read it in a mere ten minutes, because that is one of her super powers. I think I want to trade her for my super power, which is speed eating.
Bubby: Speed eating? I think I have that one, too. Our super powers are pathetic.
Sissy: I couldn’t think of anything else… Anyway, Picture Perfect by Heather B. Moore was entirely entertaining and enjoyable. If you like the characters as much as we did, there are four more novellas in the Aliso Creek series which you can buy separately or in a boxed set.
Bubby: And if you’re a member of Amazon Prime, you can borrow the boxed set for free! Oh happy day! (Guess what I’m reading tonight…) Heather B. Moore is one of our favorite authors and these novellas are some of her best work.
