Bubby: Six authors and six tales of adventure on the road. Generally in an anthology I love two or three stories, enjoy one or two more and there’s one or two that I could take or leave. Not this time. Without exception I wanted full-length novels of every. Single. One of these novellas. I’m talking 400+ page novels. I want backstory. I want to know more about the side characters. I want sequels!! But alas. We’ll just have to be content with what we get – 328 pages packed with sass, wit, romance and friendship.
Sissy: Well, for once I completely agree with Bubby and have no more to say, so let’s talk about the novellas. What Falling Feels Like by Jolene Betty Perry features Tyler, who was skinny and awkward in high school and had a crush on his older sister’s best friend, Kendall. Kendall was one of those popular high school girls who think they’re “all that” and didn’t see Tyler as anything but little brother-friend. Life events have changed both of them and when they have to make a long distance delivery together, there might be just a few sparks that fly. The chemistry between the two is fantastic.
Bubby: Antiques Road Trip by Sarah M. Eden was just so good. Kelsey and Devon meet on the set of a reality TV show whose contestants must live as if it were 1800 something and have an instant connection. I don’t just want a full-length novel of this one. I want a 2 hour movie. In 3D. With surround sound. Remember Misery by Stephen King, where Annie takes her favorite author hostage and makes him write just for her? I kind of want to offer Sarah M. Eden a lovely room in my house where she can write delightful stories for me. On demand. Forever. But I understand that this sounds super creepy and I’m not a psychotic torturer, so I’ll just really enjoy Sarah M. Eden’s stories and patiently wait for more.
Sissy: Okay. You just freaked everybody right out there, Bubby. Quickly I’ll move on, so as to distract the frightened and disturbed readers…the next story is Wouldn’t It Be Nice by Ranee S. Clark. Jacqueline must choose between ex-but-doesn’t-want-to-be-ex-boyfriend Colin and old friend-who-wants-to-be-boyfriend Hudson. I had a clear preference but Jacqueline struggles with the decision. It takes her to Alaska and back to make up her mind. I knew before we hit the road which man was the butter to her toast! I can’t help that I’m more intuitive than most.
Bubby: “Butter to her toast”, Sissy? I guess I’ll have to say that Tristan is searching for the “jam to her biscuit” in Head Over Heels by Annette Lyon. Tristan starts out playing a joke on her friend in retaliation for a previous prank and ends up in a seriously serious relationship with a super guy. Not bad for a weekend that starts out in Salt Lake and ends up in Vegas!
Sissy: Two Dozen Roses by Heather B. Moore is about Dayna and her sweet but slightly obnoxious mother who take a road trip up the Pacific Coast Highway. They meet up with Garrett and Roman, two brothers who have their own reasons for a road trip. One of the brothers is annoying and so full of himself and the other is quite delightful. Both are competitive and both are attracted to Dayna. Will she allow one of the siblings into her heart? And if so, which one?
Bubby: Try, Try Again by Aubrey Mace starts out in a bookstore, which is an automatic 10 point bonus! Sarah has quite the crush on her co-worker Justin, but she’s a big chicken. When he confesses that he feels the same, she freaks out and runs away. But don’t worry. Sarah, with the help of a good friend, finally puts on her big girl undies and goes after the man she loves. But it just might be too late…
Sissy: These six stories made me want to go on a road trip of my own.
Bubby: I wanna come too!
Sissy: You can come if you do 75% of the driving and bring all the treats.
Bubby: Oh, so just like every other time we’re in a car together then. Great.
Sissy: Yes. Standard procedure. Readers, you will happily enjoy all of these stories whether you go on a road trip or not. Tell us about your road trip plans for this summer! Where are you going and with whom? We just might write about you!
